The office felt heavy that night, long hours, endless reports, and the hum of fluorescent lights that never seemed to die out. By 10 p.m., my eyes were tired from staring at the screen, and I needed air. I grabbed my jacket and headed for the rooftop.
The cool night breeze hit me the second I pushed open the heavy door. The city spread out below, lights twinkling like stars, traffic buzzing faintly in the distance. It felt like another world compared to the stiff silence of the office.
I thought I was alone until I heard footsteps behind me.
“Couldn’t sleep either?”
It was Emily, from the design team. She carried two cans of soda, offering me one with a small smile. Her blouse was untucked, hair slightly messy, she looked more relaxed than I’d ever seen her.
“Thanks,” I said, popping it open. “Needed this.”
We stood by the ledge, sipping quietly. The night was cool, but the air between us carried something warmer, something charged. She leaned against the railing, tilting her head back to look at the sky.
“Funny,” she said softly. “We spend all day trapped in that office and never notice how beautiful the city looks at night.”
I glanced at her. The glow from the streetlights below painted her face, and I couldn’t help but notice how her lips curved when she smiled.
“You make it sound like we’re missing out,” I said.
“Maybe we are.” Her eyes flicked to mine, holding for just a second too long.
Silence stretched, filled only by the hum of the city below. My chest tightened. Was it just me, or did she mean more than her words?
She turned to face me fully, her hand brushing mine as she set her can down on the railing. The touch was light, accidental maybe, but it sent a spark through me.
“You’re warm,” she teased, her voice low.
“Must be the soda,” I joked, but my voice cracked slightly.
She laughed softly, stepping closer. Her perfume, something sweet and light, mixed with the night air. I swallowed hard as she looked up at me, eyes shining.
“This is crazy,” she whispered, but she didn’t step back.
“Yeah,” I breathed. “Crazy.”
Then she kissed me.
It was soft at first, testing, but the second I kissed her back, it grew deeper, hungrier. My hands found her waist, pulling her against me. She wrapped her arms around my neck, pressing closer until there was no space between us.
Her lips tasted like soda and something sweeter, something only hers. She gasped softly as I kissed down her neck, her body arching toward mine.
“Someone could come up,” I muttered against her skin.
“That’s what makes it hot,” she whispered, pulling me tighter.
The risk made my blood race. I backed her against the rooftop wall, my hands sliding under her blouse, fingertips tracing warm skin. She moaned softly, her nails scratching my back through my shirt.
The city roared below us, but up here, it felt like we were the only two people in the world.
Her skirt rode up as I lifted her slightly, her legs wrapping around me. She clung to me, kissing me harder, her breath hot against my mouth. The rough brick pressed against her back, but she didn’t care, if anything, it only made her grip me tighter.
“You’re trouble,” I whispered.
“And you like it,” she shot back, smiling breathlessly.
I groaned as I slid inside her, her cry muffled against my lips. The night swallowed the sound, but the thrill of being so exposed made every movement sharper, more desperate.
The wall scraped faintly against her back as I thrust into her, but she only moaned louder, her voice trembling with each motion. The city lights blurred in my vision as her body tightened around me, her climax breaking through in shudders.
Her head fell to my shoulder, her voice breaking as she whispered my name. The sound alone pushed me over the edge, release tearing through me as I held her tight, burying my face in her neck.
For a moment, everything was still. Just the two of us, panting, clinging to each other under the night sky.
Finally, she laughed softly, breathless. “God… we’re insane.”
“Yeah,” I said, kissing her forehead. “But worth it.”
We straightened our clothes quickly, fixing hair and buttons, though the glow on her face made it clear what had happened. She picked up her soda, taking a shaky sip.
“Think anyone saw?” I asked.
She smirked, brushing her hair back. “If they did… they just got the best free show of their lives.”
We headed back inside, the office hallways still quiet. But as she slipped her hand into mine for just a second before letting go, I knew this wasn’t the last rooftop break we’d be taking together.
